Yuhan Yao conducts observational studies to understand the inner workings, environments, and demographics of astronomical transients. To do this, she leverages real-time alert streams from modern time domain surveys for systematic searches, coupled with coordinated multi-wavelength follow-up observations.

Below is a list of her recent research interests:

1) tidal disruption events (emission mechanisms, implications in black hole demographics, galaxy evolution, and galaxy nuclei dynamics)

2) supernovae (progenitors, massive star end-of-life mass-loss history, engine-driven explosions)

3) multi-messenger astronomy (electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational-wave sources)
