Samples and Distances of Molecular Clouds In the Milky Way

Abstract:

I will introduce my studies on distance measurements based on the Milky Way Imaging Scroll Painting (MWISP) survey and the Gaia DR2 catalog. Molecular clouds cause extinction augmentation along lines of sight, which can be gauged with stellar parallax and extinction. For molecular clouds at high Galactic latitudes, distance measurements are straightforward, but for those in the Galactic plane, special treatments are needed.  In 2019 we proposed a background eliminated extinction parallax (BEEP) method to remove contaminations of background extinction using off-cloud stars, thereby measuring molecular cloud distances accurately.
