Peking University invites applications for one faculty position at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (KIAA) and the Department of Astronomy (DoA), starting in 2026. This is a special round of recruitment, open only to candidates with an established, exceptional research record and reputation. The deadline for applications is Monday, August 11 at 5pm in Beijing. Faculty recruitment is open to qualified applicants in all areas of astronomy and astrophysics, including (1) observational cosmology, galaxy formation and evolution, (2) planetary systems, star formation, and stellar populations, (3) high-energy and gravitational physics, (4) particle astrophysics, and (5) computational astrophysics.
Peking University is one of the top universities in China, with astronomers at the forefront of exciting domestic and international initiatives. We have a large and talented student body (80 graduate and 120 undergraduate students), a vibrant postdoctoral program (30 postdocs), and 25 faculty members. Peking University astronomy hosts the CSST PKU Science Center, which will play a pivotal role in analysis of survey data from the Chinese Space Station Telescope. RANK: We seek exceptional applicants at the level of tenure-track assistant professor or full professor. Particularly meritorious candidates will be considered at the level of chair professor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, planetary sciences or related fields, a demonstrated record of research excellence, and potential to obtain external funding. For this round, candidates should have a research record and reputation, consistent with Hubble Fellows or prized institutional fellowships, including the Miller and Clay Fellowships.
