The Peking University – Tsinghua University Joint Postdoc Forum in Astronomy and Astrophysics

The Peking University – Tsinghua University Joint Postdoc Forum in Astronomy and Astrophysics was successfully held at the Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics at Peking University (PKU) and the Department of Astronomy at Tsinghua University (THU) from December 1-2, 2025. More than 40 postdoctoral researchers and graduate students from PKU, THU, and multiple other research institutions in China and abroad participated in the event.

The forum opened on the morning of December 1st with remarks by Prof. Xian Chen, Associate Chair of the Dept. of Astronomy at Peking University. Prof. Chen encouraged the young scholars to make full use of this opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences, and wished the forum great success. On the following day, the forum continued at Tsinghua University, where Prof. Di Li, Chair of the Dept. of Astronomy at Tsinghua, delivered welcome remarks. Prof. Li shared his research experiences, encouraging participants to learn from each other, broaden their perspectives, and achieve excellence in the early stages of their academic careers.

Over the two-day program, participants presented their latest research across a wide range of topics including planet formation, stellar astrophysics, black holes and active galactic nuclei, galaxies and dark matter haloes, and large-scale structure. They also engaged in in-depth discussions on frontier scientific topics, career development, and the prospects of artificial intelligence in astronomy. The forum provided an in-person platform for young researchers to communicate, find common interests and explore collaborations, thereby fostering academic interaction and contributing to the development of astronomy in China.

The event was organized by faculty members and postdocs from PKU and THU, with an organizing committee (Verónica Vázquez Aceves, Haonan Zheng, Boris K. Kalita, Elizabeth Moreno Hilario, Alvaro Segovia Otero, David Robinson) and an advisory committee (Gregory J. Herczeg, Feng Long, Dandan Xu).
