Dwarf galaxies and their satellites as extreme probes of LCDM

Speaker:
Prof. Laura Sales,UC Riverside
Speaker Introduction :

I am originally from Argentina, where I took my undergraduate and graduate classes.

After obtaining my PhD in 2007 from the National University of Cordoba, I moved to Europe to pursue my

professional career. I held postdoctoral research positions at the Kapteyn Institute in

the Netherlands and in Germany at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics.

In 2013 I moved to the US  as a Harvard Fellow at the Institute for Theory and Computation.

I then got a faculty position at the University of California Riverside and joined the Physics

and Astronomy Department  in 2015.

I am interested in the modeling of the formation and evolution of galaxies and the physics of the interstellar medium.

My group works with numerical simulations using high performance computing, so

we have good synergy with physics, astronomy and computer science.
