Dark and luminous matter in galaxies (in a new golden age for HI galaxy surveys with the SKA)

I will discuss what we have learned about the central dark matter distribution in galaxies from high-resolution HI observations in tandem with cosmological hydrodynamic simulations of galaxies. The observed dark matter distribution with a sizeable constant density-core towards the centres of the galaxies is more in line with those in Lambda CDM simulations of dwarf galaxies in which the effect of baryonic feedback processes is included. I will then finish the talk by introducing several on-going research projects about galaxy dynamics in near-filed cosmology and its link to star formation in preparation for the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) era.
