Further insights into box/peanut bulge formation

I present new observational data on the evolution of box/peanut bulges to redshift 1.  I will discuss evidence in favour of “kinematic fractionation”, the process by which the stellar populations of box/peanut shaped bulges are ordered.  I present new predictions from models that can be used to further test the mechanism.  I also present their dynamical evolution in the space of the dynamical actions, which provides a powerful new method for assigning stellar populations to stellar particles in simulations, with many potential applications.  Using this technique I then demonstrate some new results about the impact of clump formation on the chemistry of the bulge.
